A seat that fits the day's work

Some days you work in silence.
Some days you talk out loud.
Find the seat that matches your mood.

Ways to spend a day at ensō

Two people working in the partitioned focus booths
01

A day to focus

On days of quiet, heads-down work, the focus desks are yours.
We chose work chairs that stay comfortable through long hours.
For days full of online meetings or voice recording, there is a soundproof booth.
No need to worry about your voice carrying, or about being overheard.

02

A day to tick off
small tasks

Between appointments in town, settle in at the big table with fast Wi-Fi to answer messages and tidy up admin work.
That kind of use is welcome too.
If someone is sitting next to you, a chat might start. If it does not, that is fine as well.

A day for meetings

For strategy sessions within your team, or meetings with clients and outside partners, the meeting room seats four. It has a monitor and a whiteboard. Availability and booking are handled online.

04

Evenings and weekends,
a day for your
own project

On weekday evenings and weekends, ensō can be the place where you move your own project forward, apart from your main job.
Give shape here to the idea that never progressed at home.
When you reach a stopping point, you can cross the street for a soak at the sento before heading home.

A day to talk
things through

When you keep thinking alone,
you can lose track of whether you are heading the right way.
Whether it is a business idea or a worry about your work or career, talk it through with someone and get honest feedback.
The staff will be your sounding board, and we regularly hold small study groups and lightning-talk sessions where you can have your thinking heard.

Community

What has taken root at ensō is a community of people working in Takayama, in all kinds of roles and trades.
A staff member whose job is to connect people is always here, and on days you feel like talking, they will introduce you to someone.

On days you would rather be alone, that is fine as it is.
Here you can choose the kind of connection that feels right for you that day.

As of September 2026, including the operating team

ensō holds events about twice a month.
Some are open to anyone, others are for members only.

The content changes from one event to the next.
There are sessions where everyone brings their own project to work on and shows the results at the end, and sessions for sharing tool setups and small tricks of the trade.

We also plan show-and-tell circles for portfolios and work results, and reading groups where people bring technical books to discuss.

There are circles for airing worries about pricing and starting a business, and a monthly gathering where business owners advise one another.

There are gatherings a little removed from work, too.
We hold philosophy dialogues that do not aim for an answer, and sessions where adults present their own passion projects.

We are also thinking about a craft session for making things for your desk with your own hands,
and a session where longtime residents answer questions about living in Takayama.

Each time people bring something to share, you learn who knows what and who likes what.

Dates and who can join are listed on the event calendar.
